The People’s Republic of China did not come into existence until 1949 when the Communist Party or China won the Chinese Civil war. The main government of the Republic of China was forced to evacuate the continent, where they fled to the island of Taiwan. The military aspect of the conflict was not involved anymore but the war still existed. In the late 1970’ the Republic of China started to commence the complete multi party called the representative democracy in the territories that were still under it’s control. Taiwan, Province, Taipei and Kaohsiung and some of the Fuji islands.
The Republic of China still has an active political party in most sections of society. The main concern in the Republic of China is the parts of the unification with China vs. formal independence. Before 1978, the mainland control should have led to some ease of control over many parts of the society.
The Chinese control is still had by the government. The government still has to overcome threats that come in vowing to hurt the People’s Republic of China. They are constantly fighting terrorism, political opponents and journalists; they have to deal with the regulations of religion and political unrests. In 1989, college students protested at Tianamen Square, what was a peaceful demonstration turned into a violent act. In 1997, Hong Kong was promptly returned to the People’s Republic of China by the United Kingdom and in 1999 Macao was returned as well by Portugal.
