There are millions and millions of people living in China today who are from other countries, they are called expatriates. Different countries has different rules about living in their country some are more relaxed than others but after September 11, 2001, countries are a lot more careful who they let in. In the People’s Republic of China they have very strict rules about living there. You first must get the government’s permission to live there. You have to fill out the Visa paperwork and get it approved.
Then you must follow the custom’s list of rules and regulations on what you can bring in and out of the country. The Chinese live by honor and they expect everyone who lives there even expatriates to live by the same code. Living in another country has its positive things and it’s negative ones as well. The positive things is that the excitement of a new place even if it is temporary, the cultures and the way of life is usually a thousand times different that it would be from your home country.
The negatives things are the unfamiliarity of living in another country and learning the ways of the country. There are rules and laws much different than our own countries. Also, the facts that you are an expatriate and not a citizen so you have to know what your rights are before you make a decision on whether or not you want to live there. Things won’t be easy but they can be a learning experience, so don’t be afraid to take chances, just know the rules and know your rights.
