Beijing is a huge city located in northern China. It s the capital of the People’s Republic of China. Beijing was formerly known as Peking or Peiking any centuries ago. Beijing is on of four major municipalities of the PRC, which make up China’s administrative structure. The Beijing Municipality borders the Hebei Province to the north, west and south and in the east is the Tianjin Municipality is located in the southeast of Beijing.
Beijing is China’s second largest city but not in miles but in population. Beijing alone has over 14, 930,000 people. The first city largest in population is Shanghai. Beijing is a major transportation site with many railroads, roads, highways with both coming in and going out and in many directions. It is one of the main points of many international flights coming and going into China. Beijing is the third largest economic province behind Shanghai and Hong King respectively. But as a major tourist attraction and a major city in it’s own right they will host the 2008 Summer Olympics.
The name Beijing means the Northern Capital. China and East Asian traditional says a city must be named the literally translation of those words. There are other names as well in the literally translation game. Nanjing means southern capital and in Tokyo, Japan and Dong Kinh I Vietnam all mean eastern capital and Kyoto, Japan means capital.
